Balloon launched from World Scout Jamboree floats across the Atlantic Ocean

The fact that something so small and low-cost was able to cross the Atlantic Ocean is, in my opinion, amazing.  Had to be pretty exciting for the scouts involved.  Well done Scouts!!


World Scout Jamboree Ham Radio Balloon Crosses Atlantic



This close-up picture of the device carried by the balloon doesn't give a good view of just how small it is...watch the video to see it in reference to the people giving the demonstration.  The tiny circuit board (green board in picture above) is smaller than a cell phone and contains a GPS unit, temp. and pressure measuring ability, and the radio transmitter.  It broadcasts this information and can be tracked.

EDIT (29 August 2019): The ballon labeled as NA1WJ-5 (noted above) was one of four that the Scouts launched from the Jamboree -- the one which made it across the Atlantic is NA1WJ-7...here is link to their Tweet about it:
